Methodology: where our information comes from
How is this guide put together?
Fence Cost is built from public records and published, cited sources: prices are the ranges providers or public agencies publish, rules come from the official agency pages, and provider lists come from public records. We do not estimate numbers we cannot source, and we do not publish ratings or reviews.
What sources do we use?
Every outside source cited on this site:

How are medians computed?
This site mostly shows published price ranges, not medians. Where a page shows a median or count (for example from City of San Diego open data or business tax records), it is computed from the public dataset named on that page, counting each record once, for the date range stated there. Small samples are labeled.
What are the limitations?
- Published price ranges are what providers advertise, not quotes for your job. Compare 2–3 written quotes.
- Rules and programs change; the official agency page always wins over our summary.
- Provider lists come from public records and are not endorsements.
